Possibly the best known of all the Tour climbs, Alpe d’Huez and it’s famous 21 switchbacks has seen some decisive battles down the years as it hosts summit finishes. First used in 1952 it has seen many of the greats win including Coppi, Merckx, Hinault, Pantani and more recently Geraint Thomas.
